Quanum Pocket Vibration Telemetry Voltage Meter With Alarm

Post by solentlife » 24 Aug 2015, 12:49

I have just bought and received this small instrument from Hobby King. It is a Tx that plugs into a LiPo balance lead ... transmits voltage information separate to your normal radio ... to a Rx in your pocket or clipped to your Tx.

You can set for various low level alarm ... 3.3V up to 3.7V and it monitors from 2S up to 8S for any cell that falls to that level.

The Tx part is tiny ... and could be put in even a small model. The Rx in your pocket is about half the size of a Cigarette packet.

Once tested ... will report more.

If anyone already using ... please post ..

Seems to be great stuff, much better than those cheap buzzers with LEDs.
I see 869.5Mhz and 915MHz versions on HK. Are both of them legal in Latvia?
do you ever feel that if you weren't paid to write code, you'd do it anyway?

One guy I fly fpv racers with in the UK had one of these Quantum voltage alarms. He didn't like it that much, so he resorted to using the regular cheap lipo buzzers.

No idea ... but I can ask my Pal in Riga who is in Radio Regulatory Division ...

To be honest at the range it has ... who's going to know if you use it ?

Will report back once I find out.

Just rec'd reply :

"Dear Mr. Luther!
Mentioned frequencies allowed to mobile services."

I have been given another contact to get full info ... but it appears that these may be allowed for use.

869.5 MHz is in the EU ISM band - free to use it without the license, if you keep power levels and duty cycle within the limits specified by the EU regulations. Think it's this one - http://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/ ... 71%2801%29
915 MHz is a similar ISM band in the US, in EU it is licensed to cell phone operators for GSM, UMTS etc.

What's the actual range on this thing?
I'm using a simple LiPo buzzer, seems fine for up to 200m distance being inside the plane behind the foam, though it depends on the wind, altitude and throttle level. A more discreet device in the pocket sometimes would be welcome, :) once started mine doesn't stop beeping even if the throttle is cut and voltage returns above the set threshold, and it is loud.

Range is said to be 300m ..... but given that Parkfly Rx's are rated at similar - I would expect better.

I'm waiting for reply from the Radio People in Riga .... I have a friend there and he's put me in contact with the right guy.

Bit bad that 869Mhz unit is 2x price of 915Mhz unit. I suppose sales are greater in USA ... so better pricing.

This is reply I got back from my contact in Radio Comm's Division :

"Dear Mr. Luther,
It is allowed to use frequency 869.5 MHz for short range devices in Latvia but unfortunately it is not allowed to use frequency 915 MHz. Short range devices are exempted from an individual licence.

Frequency band 869.4-869.65 MHz is allocated to non-specific short range devices for telemetry, telecommand, alarms, data transmissions in general and other applications so this frequency is available for model radio telemetry equipment.
Maximum transmit power is 500 mW e.r.p. and duty cycle limit of 10 %.

Frequency 915 MHz according to the Latvian National frequency table is allocated to commercial electronic communications service so this frequency is not available for flight model radio telemetry equipment.

More information about frequency usage in Latvia you can find in the Latvian National frequency table on http://likumi.lv/doc.php?id=198903 (in Latvian) and in the ECO Frequency Information System http://www.efis.dk "

So there's the answer from the Authorities ...
