Well .... what a peach of a model ....

OK .. initially had hell of a job getting motor to fire up due to water in the gasoline !! That's a bit of an embarrassment considering my job ! My sincere thanks to Kuldiga Aviacijas Sporta Klub guys for coming to my aid and fresh gasoline and their efforts !

Anyway ... once we'd cleared the tank bottom ... drawn through the carb ... she fired up nice and rich (new engine only on its third tank of fuel) ...

She took to the skies and showed what an absolute doll she is.

OK ... info :

Span 1620mm
Designed for 5255 Electric or 70 FS Glow.

My model set-up :

RCGF 15cc Gasoline engine.
Aileron servos Turnigy 20gr Analogue Metal Gear
Rudder / Elevator servos Turnigy 40gr Analogue Metal Gear
Throttle Turnigy 16gr Digital Metal gear
1600 3S LiPo feeding 2 uBEC ... one to Rx .. other to Ignition CDi
14x7 Aerostar Propeller
30:1 2 stroke mix.
AUW to fly incl full tank of 280ml : 3.09Kg

Surfaces set to manual stated movements ... and reduced rate at 50% of that. Both rates have 50% Expo.

CoG measured at 120mm back from LE.

No extra lead or ballast .... all servos fitted in designed positions.

LiPo sits longitudinally behind fuel tank with CDi next to it.

OK ... flight report ........

She is an absolute doll BUT very sensitive. The Manual recc'd control settings are TOO much for comfortable flying unless you dial in a lot of Expo. I ended up flying full rate ailerons and 50% elevator. Yes - the engine is new and not on song - so I cannot push the 'envelope' ... once she is run-in ... then I'll be able to use the excessive control movements.
To be honest ... I think it would be difficult to balance this model with designed power systems - would need a lot of lead and then lose any chance of 3D from her. But she would prove to be an absolute peach for aerobatics schedule.
My Gasoline engine basically will drag her through whatever I want ...

But anyway ... we had light but variable winds .. with occasional gust. Never noticed anything in her flight pattern. She just cruised through it all.

Personally ? She is an ideal machine for the gasoline engine I fitted ...... balance .. power ... it just sits right.

Thanks to ULDISK ... I now have a good CHOKE control system for my Zlin.

I had looked at fitting a servo to control the choke, but his simple wire rod idea has proved to be superb.

Yesterday - I did more test runs of the engine - to try and get her run-in and she is now running sweet. I now look forward to next session to see her fly again.

Hi Uldis .. I ordered on internet bag of 5 model '646 filter clunks as you showed on SKYPE. But they will take time in post. If you have one on Saturday .. I will pay for it ... no problem.

Zlin at moment seems to be OK on the temporary system ... will change to your system when I have parts.

Engine is now running sweet ... not complete run-in but at least should be good for reasonable aerobatics. If I am honest - I like Zlin more than the Extra I have.
